Betty Martin brings a wealth of experience in child-related issues and nonprofit management to Murrow Indian Children’s Home, Muskogee, Okla., where she has served as director since 2010. Before that, she was director of Muskogee County Child Advocacy Center for 10 years, during which time she hosted many conferences and trainings regarding children’s issues, including abuse.

She was instrumental in developing the county child advocacy center in addition to Muskogee County Sexual Assault Program, Eastern Oklahoma Child Death Review Board and Muskogee County Multi-disciplinary Team. She helped to create a preventive health care program for Northern Virginia Family Service, Woodbridge, Va., and a mentoring program for Warner (Okla.) Public Schools. Author of numerous grants, she served on the grant review panel for the National Children’s Alliance, Washington, D.C.

Serving at Murrow “has been one of the most amazing experiences,” she says. “Murrow has truly been a blessing to my life.”

Of Cherokee heritage, Martin was born in Southwestern Kansas and relocated to Oklahoma in 1977. She is a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God, where she teaches fifth graders. The mother of five daughters, she has nine grandchildren. Martin enjoys reading, beading and crafting moccasins and small leather bags.
